Specialized LG Appliance Repair in San Francisco
Mon–Sat: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
French-door, side-by-side, top-freezer and kimchi models, diagnosed from the airflow to the board.
A refrigerator that struggles is rarely a simple story. Warm milk, a freezer full of soft ice cream, a puddle under the crisper drawers or a dispenser that only dribbles can each come from a different part of the system. We repair LG refrigerators across San Francisco and the Bay Area, and every visit starts with working out which part of the system is actually at fault before anyone talks about replacing anything.
Most calls fall into a handful of symptom groups. Sorting your problem into one of them already tells a technician where to look first.
On French-door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer layouts, cold air is made in the freezer and shared with the fresh-food side through a duct and a damper. When the freezer is fine but the fridge side drifts warm, the usual suspects are a frosted-over evaporator, a weak or blocked evaporator fan, a stuck air damper or a temperature sensor reading wrongly. Our guide to a refrigerator that is not cooling while the freezer is fine walks through what that pattern means.
Frost building on the freezer back wall, ice around the door seal or water pooling in the bottom of the cabinet usually points at the defrost system: the heater, the defrost sensor, the control that decides when defrosting happens, or a drain that has frozen shut. A door that does not seal evenly can produce the same picture from the outside in. See freezer frost around the door for the seal-related version.
Lettuce turning glassy and drinks turning to slush mean too much cold air is arriving in the wrong place. A sticking damper, a sensor that under-reports temperature or a blocked return path can all do it. We cover the owner-side checks in refrigerator freezing food.
LG ice makers and dispensers are popular and have their own list of faults: a fill tube frozen solid, a water valve that opens weakly, a filter that has clogged, an ice mold that no longer releases or an ice maker fan that has iced up. Slow pouring is covered in water dispenser running slow, and thin, undersized cubes in small hollow ice cubes.
Dedicated kimchi units are built to hold a narrow, steady temperature for fermenting food, so small swings matter more than in a normal fridge. If yours wanders, start with kimchi refrigerator temperature unstable.
We do not swap parts and hope. A visit begins with your description: when the problem started, whether it follows a power cut, whether the noise is new. Then the technician checks the obvious from the outside, including door seals and alignment, condenser airflow and whether the unit is level, before moving to the cooling path itself. Fan operation, defrost components, the sensors and the control board are tested rather than assumed. Once the cause is clear, you receive a written estimate and nothing is repaired until you approve it.
Many LG refrigerators show a short code on the panel. Writing down exactly what appears, including any letter prefix, is the most useful thing you can do before calling. The meanings we list come from our verified code pages. A few worth knowing:
The full list lives in the error code library. A code narrows the search; it does not by itself prove a part has failed.
Kitchens in San Francisco flats and condos are often tight. A French-door model pushed into a shallow alcove leaves little room behind for the condenser to breathe, and a unit shoved flush against the wall can run hot and constantly. Door swing matters too: if a refrigerator sits beside a wall or a panel, a door that cannot open fully makes drawers and shelves hard to reach and can disturb the seal. Dispensers and ice makers also depend on a supply valve that is fully open and a line that is not pinched behind the cabinet.
These are all done from the outside and take only a few moments:
Please do not remove rear panels, probe the electronics or try to open the sealed system. Frozen food is better moved to a cooler than gambled on while you experiment.
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker if you notice a burning smell, sparks or a breaker that trips repeatedly, then call us rather than resetting again. A sweet or chemical smell near the cabinet is also a reason to keep the door open and the room ventilated until it has been looked at. Water running across the floor deserves the supply valve being closed straight away.
LG builds refrigerators in several layouts and sizes, and the parts inside differ from one platform to the next. The model label is usually found on the inside wall of the fresh-food compartment, near the top, or along the door frame. With it, we can tell whether you have a French-door, side-by-side, top-freezer or bottom-freezer design, and we can check the right documentation before the visit. Our short guide to finding your LG model number shows where to look. Models we see regularly include the LBNC15251 bottom-freezer, the LS27H3230 side-by-side and the LT18S1100 top-freezer.
You send a request through the form with your model number, the symptom and any code. We confirm a suitable window and the technician arrives, listens to your account of the problem and tests the unit. You then hear what was found, in ordinary language, with a written estimate. If you approve, the repair goes ahead; if you would rather think it over, there is no pressure and nothing is touched. Landlords and property managers can arrange access through the tenant and receive the same written summary.

Not necessarily. That pattern more often points to airflow between the two sections: a frosted evaporator, a fan that is not moving air or a damper that is stuck. Diagnosis separates those from a compressor issue.
Usually yes, as long as there is no burning smell, sparking or tripping breaker. Keep doors closed as much as possible and move anything you cannot afford to lose into a cooler.
Write it down exactly as shown, including any letters before or after it, and look it up in the error code library. Then include it when you send your request.
Yes. Kimchi units, built-in ice makers and water dispensers are part of what we diagnose, along with French-door, side-by-side, top-freezer and bottom-freezer layouts.
No. You get a written estimate after diagnosis, and nothing is repaired until you approve it.
