LG Dishwasher Repair in San Francisco

Fill, drain, latch and drying problems traced to the part at fault, then explained in plain language.

At a glance

Overview

A dishwasher that quits halfway, leaves a pool in the bottom or hands back cloudy glasses turns a convenience into a chore. We repair LG dishwashers in San Francisco and around the Bay Area, including models with the QuadWash and TrueSteam feature lines, and we work out why the machine is misbehaving before proposing any repair.

Where LG dishwashers run into trouble

Water that will not come in

If the tub stays dry or fills only a little, the cause may be a closed supply valve, a kinked inlet hose, a clogged inlet screen or a failing inlet valve. Our owner guide, dishwasher won’t fill with water, covers the order to check.

Water that will not leave

Standing water after a cycle normally comes from a clogged filter, a blocked drain hose or air gap, a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never removed, or a drain pump that has stopped. The display message is OE, which tells you the tub did not fully drain.

Cycle stops or door will not close

A cycle that halts mid-way can be a door switch, a control board decision after a sensor reading, or a leak protection stop. Read dishwasher stops mid-cycle and dishwasher door won’t latch for the two most reported patterns.

Wet dishes and poor drying

Plastic items staying wet is normal for many machines, but if even ceramics come out damp, the heating or drying components may be involved. Models that use a heat dry fan can report F31 or F35. See dishes stay wet.

Poor cleaning

Gritty glasses and food left on the top rack point at spray arms, filters, water temperature or loading habits. Our guide on an upper rack not cleaning goes into detail.

Odor

A sour or swampy smell comes from trapped debris in the filter and sump or from a drain line that holds water. See dishwasher bad odor.

How the diagnosis works

The technician follows the water: supply, valve, tub, pump, drain. Then comes the machine’s own hardware, including the spray system, the heater, the door latch and switch, the sensors and the control board. You hear what is wrong, you see a written estimate, and no repair starts without your approval. We do not swap parts in the hope that one of them fixes it.

Reading error messages

LG dishwashers show short codes. Note the exact characters before you call. These are the ones we encounter most:

  • AE and FE, leakage or overfilling, linked to excess water, oversudsing or an unlevel unit.
  • bE, the bubble error from too much soap or the wrong soap.
  • HE, a heater error in which water is not being heated.
  • tE, a temperature sensor problem.
  • LE, a cleaning motor that is not working properly.
  • nE, a pump issue where the impeller is not spinning normally or dishes are touching it.
  • CL, which only means the control panel is locked.
  • PF, a power failure indicator that is not a fault.

Not every message means a broken part; the error code library says which are fixed by the owner.

Installation details that change the diagnosis

Where the dishwasher is built in explains many problems. In older San Francisco kitchens, the machine often sits under a countertop with a drain hose that does not rise high enough in a loop, so wastewater drifts back from the sink. Where a garbage disposal is attached, the dishwasher drain connects at the disposal, and a clogged disposal or an unremoved knockout plug will stop drainage. Water supply is usually a small valve under the sink, and in rentals it can be partly shut or seized with age. Dishwashers also need to be level and anchored so that the door closes squarely onto its seal. In condos and flats, a leak travels downward fast, so a small drip is worth taking seriously.

Door fit is another installation factor. Flooring added after the dishwasher was installed can raise the machine and change the angle, and countertops that sag may press on the top edge. We look at these points when the door or the latch is the problem.

Owner checks that are safe

  1. Make sure the machine has power: check the plug if there is one, and the breaker or GFCI.
  2. Open the water supply valve under the sink fully.
  3. Close the door firmly and check the latch is not blocked by a utensil or a tall dish.
  4. Remove the lower rack and clean the filter at the bottom of the tub.
  5. Check that the sink drain is clear and that the drain hose has no kink.
  6. Use only dishwasher detergent, in the right amount, to avoid suds.
  7. Read the code, write it down and try one controlled power reset.

Please do not remove the lower kick panel, touch wiring or force the latch open.

When to stop using it

Turn off the breaker and close the supply valve if water is leaking from under the door, if you smell burning or if the machine trips the breaker. Do not keep running a unit that has water coming out onto the floor, especially above a neighbor’s unit.

Why the model number helps

LG dishwasher lines differ in racks, spray systems and drying methods, so the model number sets which parts and documentation apply. It is usually on the door frame or the edge of the door, and our short guide on finding your LG model number helps if it is hard to see. Models we see include the LDPH676, the LDNPQ44H and the LG SIGNATURE SDNAH981.

What to expect at the visit

Send a request with your model number, a short description of the symptom and any code. We confirm a time window, the technician examines the machine, and you receive a written estimate. Repairs begin only after your approval. For tenants, landlords can arrange access and see the same summary. Our LG dishwashers guide covers the lineup in more depth.
