Model overview

Model notes

The WM1388H is a 2.3 cu ft front-load washer, with no series name. It shares its size with the WM1385H, though we look up each number separately instead of treating them as one.

Washer will not drain

A drain failure leaves water in the drum and a door that stays locked. The display reports the drain error code. A kinked hose, a clogged debris filter, a hose pushed too far into the standpipe or a pump that has stopped can each be the reason. Do not force the door while water is inside. Pull the plug at the wall only if you must, and keep towels ready.

Shaking and walking

A spin that bangs or moves the washer across the floor often means an unbalanced load, flagged by the unbalanced load code, or feet that are not planted. In older buildings the floor flexes, which makes a spin sound worse. Redistribute towels, remove a lone heavy item and run the spin again. Our long cycle guide also explains why the washer sometimes stretches a cycle to correct an imbalance.

Water that fills slowly or not at all

The water inlet code appears when the tub does not reach its level in the time allowed. Start with the two supply taps behind the washer and the screens at the hose ends. If water fills but then keeps running, the overfill code is the reference. A sensor that misreads the level can mimic both; the water level sensor code covers that.

Placement

Where the washer shares a closet with a dryer, a tight gap behind it can bend the hoses. Make sure the hoses have a gentle curve, that the drain hose sits in a standpipe of reasonable height and that the unit is level.

Booking

Send the WM1388H number and the code. Read LG washer repair and LG washers. We diagnose first, give a written estimate and repair only after you approve.

Standpipes and hoses in older buildings

Some laundry spots in San Francisco buildings have a standpipe set too low or too high, or a hose that loops into a utility sink. Both can make a washer drain slowly or siphon. When we arrive we look at where the hose enters, whether it is secured, and whether the pipe is clear. Photographs of the hookup help when you book.
