Model overview

A front loader with a familiar set of faults

We list the WM3180C as a 4.5 cu ft front load washer. A machine like this fills through inlet valves, measures the level with a pressure sensor and empties through a pump. Problems tend to cluster around those three jobs.

Water in, water level, water out

  • Fill trouble: the IE code shows the tub did not reach the required level in time. Low water pressure, a closed valve or clogged inlet screens come first.
  • Level trouble: the PE code points at the water level sensor, while FE signals too much water.
  • Drain trouble: OE means the washer could not empty. Kinks, a blocked filter or suds can all trigger it.

Too much detergent, especially in a washer that already smells, creates suds that confuse the sensor. The Sud code covers that case.

What to do before the technician arrives

Check that both inlet valves are fully open and hoses are not crushed. Wipe the gasket and look for objects. If the display shows a code, write it down, then switch the breaker off briefly and on again once. If the same code returns, leave it alone. Do not run repeated cycles to see what happens, as extra water on a failing drain can reach the floor.

Bay Area water and laundry spaces

Hard water in some inland towns leaves scale on inlet screens, while older San Francisco buildings may have low-flow shutoff valves. Both affect fill time. We note valve type and hose condition during the visit so replacing a part does not hide a supply problem.

Where to read more

The full process is on our LG washer repair page, and the LG washers guide lists what each family covers. A long cycle is not always a fault, so read that article first if the symptom is time rather than failure.

How the visit unfolds

We begin by reading the code with you and asking when it first appeared. Next we confirm water pressure at the valves, look at the inlet screens and run a short cycle to see how the level behaves. If the drain is involved, we check the hose route and the pump housing before drawing any conclusion.

Findings are explained in plain language with a written estimate. You decide whether to go ahead, and if you prefer to think it over, the washer is left safe and turned off. Nothing is repaired without your approval.
