LG Cooktops

A short orientation for owners of counter-mounted LG cooktops, from label to first checks.

At a glance

Overview

A cooktop is the cooking surface without an oven underneath. It drops into a counter cutout, which is why it is common in Bay Area kitchens where the oven is a separate wall unit or where cabinet space below the surface is used for drawers. LG sells gas, electric radiant and induction versions. They look similar from above but fail in very different ways, so knowing which one you own is the first step. Service details are on our LG cooktop repair page.

Gas, electric and induction

Gas cooktops light each burner with a spark igniter, and the flame is shaped by a cap and base that must sit correctly. Electric radiant cooktops heat a ceramic glass surface from elements below it. Induction cooktops do not heat the glass directly; they create heat in compatible cookware, and they switch off a zone if the pan is missing or poorly matched.

The catalog covers the gas LCG3011BD and LCG3011ST in the 30-inch width, and the LCG3611BD and LCG3611ST in the 36-inch width. Electric cooktops include the LCE3010SBE and LCE3610SBE. In these numbers LCG usually marks gas and LCE electric.

Finding the label

The label sits on the underside of the cooktop, which is awkward to reach once it is installed. Look first in the printed manual or the original paperwork. If neither is around, the label may be visible from the cabinet below when a drawer or panel is removed by you for a moment, or from the box and receipt you saved. Do not unscrew the cooktop or lift it out. A clear photo of the cooktop from above, together with the width, still helps us narrow it down. Our model number guide lists other places to look.

Typical complaints

  • One burner clicks but never catches, or the whole row clicks together after you light a single burner.
  • The flame looks uneven, yellow at the tips, or lifts off the port.
  • An induction zone turns itself off in the middle of cooking, a topic covered in why an LG induction cooktop shuts off.
  • Touch keys respond late, beep without input or ignore your finger; see touch controls not responding.
  • A radiant zone stays cold, or the indicator light shows heat when the surface feels cool.

Cooktop codes

These units use plain numbers rather than F codes. Among them, 1, 2 and 3 are thermistor errors. Code 4 means metal objects or water have been touching the touch pads for a prolonged time. Code 5 is an error detected with the display, and code 6 is low voltage. The code gives a direction, not a verdict, so we confirm with measurements on the unit.

Checks you can safely do

  1. Wipe the glass and the control area dry, and remove pots, cloths, utensils or spills from the keys. A code 4 situation often clears once the surface is clean and dry.
  2. Match the pan to the zone. On induction, a pan that is warped, too small or not magnetic will cause shutoffs.
  3. On gas, lift off the burner caps and look for food debris around the ports, then set the caps back flat and centered.
  4. Confirm the breaker for the cooktop is on. For gas, confirm the supply valve is open without touching any fittings.
  5. Do one controlled power reset at the breaker and try again.

If you smell gas, leave the home, avoid switches and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. Cracked glass, burning smells or sparks mean stop using the cooktop and switch it off at the breaker.

Booking a visit

Request LG cooktop repair with your model if you have it, or a photo and the width if you do not. We diagnose before any repair, provide a written estimate, and do nothing without your approval. If you cook on a range with a built-in oven instead, see LG ranges and ovens.
