Model overview

Safety first

If you notice a gas smell, leave, use no switches and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. If there is no smell, continue below.

The LCG3011BD

This is a 30-inch gas cooktop, the narrower of two sizes in the same LCG family. A 30-inch top sits in a standard cutout and normally uses a single gas line under the counter, a good fit for compact San Francisco kitchens and older flats with limited counter run.

Burner problems we meet

  • Constant ticking even after a flame appears.
  • A burner that lights, then dies when the knob is released.
  • Orange or lopsided flames.
  • A knob that feels loose or stiff.

Ticking usually means moisture, grease or a misplaced cap. Let the top cool, lift the cap and dry the port, then seat everything level. See the burner clicking guide for the sequence.

What a technician looks at

Igniter and spark module, thermocouple-style safety, burner base alignment and the gas orifice are the main suspects. We examine the top from above first and open the underside only when the gas is confirmed off and the situation is safe.

Installation reminders

Cabinet space beneath the cooktop is shared with drawers or an oven, so we ask what sits below. Supply connections beneath the top are not an owner job.

Cleaning the right way

Use warm water and mild soap on caps and heads, then dry them completely before reassembly. Skip abrasive pads on the burner ports, because a scratched or widened port changes the flame. Wait until the metal has cooled; a wet cap set on a hot head can crack.

If you cook with large pots, a high-output burner may need slightly more cleaning than the others.

Why the 30-inch size matters for service

A 30-inch top has less space between burners and the edges, so a pot overhanging one burner can warm a knob or scorch the trim. If knobs feel warm, move the pot or choose a smaller burner. Heat damage there often looks like a failing switch, and spotting the true cause saves a needless part.

Our technicians also check the clearance to the wall and to any cabinet beside the cooktop.
