About this model

Model overview

The LCG3611BD in brief

LG lists the LCG3611BD as a 36-inch gas cooktop. Compared with the 30-inch sibling in the family, it spreads the burners over a wider surface, which also means more cabinet to reach through when a technician has to look underneath.

Start with one burner

On a wide top, note which burner fails and whether its neighbors work. A single fault usually belongs to that burner’s cap, igniter or port. Several burners failing together point to the shared spark module or a gas supply issue at the cooktop level.

Common situations

  1. The burner lights, then goes out after a few seconds.
  2. Flames are weak on one side of the ring.
  3. The igniter clicks but no flame forms.
  4. A grate wobbles and a pot slides.

Checks that stay on top

Cool surface, then lift the cap and head, brush debris away, dry them and seat them flat. A mis-seated cap is the single most common cause of a poor flame. Do not poke metal into the ports. If anything beyond that seems needed, stop.

Gas notes

Any smell of gas means everyone out of the kitchen, no switches, and a call to the gas utility from outside. Never attempt gas fittings yourself.

Why wide tops need extra care

A wide cooktop places burners far from the wall and from each other. Boil-overs from a pot on the far side may land on the spark module wiring below, and the symptom can appear on a burner that never saw the spill. That is why we look at the whole top rather than only the burner you point to.

Grates are heavy; set them back flat so they do not rock.

Gas supply and the cabinet below

The cabinet under a wide cooktop often holds drawers, a trash pull-out or an oven. Items stored against the underside can brush wiring. Clear the space before the visit, and keep cleaners and flammables elsewhere. Once the gas is confirmed off we can inspect igniters and wiring in peace.

When the knobs feel different

A knob that turns freely but gives no click, or one that must be pushed hard, suggests a worn switch or a bent stem. Compare it with its neighbors and report the difference. Never pry a knob off with a tool; it can crack the shaft.
