Model overview

What this unit is

The LSMC3086SS is an over-the-range convection microwave in LG’s STUDIO series, with a capacity of 1.7 cu ft. Convection means it can bake with heated air as well as cook with microwaves, so there are two heating paths, plus a vent fan that serves the stove below.

Where to look when it fails

  • Microwave mode works, convection does not, or the reverse.
  • The light and display come on but nothing heats.
  • The vent fan is loud or slow.
  • The turntable stalls or clunks.
  • The door does not seat and the unit stays idle.

Testing the two modes one at a time narrows the problem fast. A technician tests each and the fan independently rather than swapping a part for every complaint.

Panel and turntable checks

Grease or steam film on the touch panel can lead to an F3 message, which LG describes as foreign substances around the touch button panel. See LG microwave F3. Wipe the panel dry with the unit unplugged or the breaker off. For a stuck plate, our post on a turntable that is not turning explains the roller ring and coupler checks.

Mounting and venting

An over-the-range unit hangs from a wall bracket and the cabinet above it, and its vent can exhaust outside or recirculate. Because it is mounted above a cooktop, heat and grease reach the filters and the vent fan, so cleaning the mesh filters is the easiest owner step. Do not remove the unit from its bracket.

Convection cooking and heat

The extra heating path means the unit works harder around its ceiling. Hot air should leave through the vent, so a blocked grille changes the behavior. Check that nothing sits on top or against the sides of the cabinet. If the unit shuts off mid-cycle on convection but not on microwave, say so; that detail points away from the magnetron and toward the heating or cooling side.

Light, fan and display

Even when heating works, a dim lamp, a slow fan or a half-lit display tells us the unit is aging or the supply is unsteady. Mention these details so we can look at connections and the control board together rather than one at a time.

Booking

Give us the label from the inside of the cavity wall or the door frame, usually, plus what the display shows. We diagnose, send a written estimate and wait for your approval. See the LG microwave repair service and the LG microwaves guide.
