Gas safety comes first

If you smell gas, leave the home, avoid switches and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. Do not try to find the leak yourself. Everything below applies only when there is no gas smell.

About this range

The LSGL5831F is a slide-in gas range. A slide-in sits between cabinets with a finished top edge that overlaps the counters, so a gas shutoff valve, a floor-level flexible line and an electrical outlet all hide behind it. LG lists the model in its product grid, and it is gas fueled for both burners and oven.

Symptoms we are called for

• A burner ticks on and on without lighting.
• The flame is yellow, lopsided or lifts off the port.
• The oven does not light, or goes out partway through baking.
• The door lock hangs after self-cleaning.
• The clock and controls go blank.

Reading the display

Oven faults appear as F codes. F9 reads upper oven not heating properly, F19 is an oven heating error, and F16 is an oven sensor issue. Look up what you see, for example LG range F19, and give us the exact text when you book.

Why the install matters

Slide-in ranges are pushed back close to the wall. Gas connections and the anti-tip bracket are behind the unit, and pulling it out must be done carefully so the connector is not strained. We never disconnect or tighten gas fittings without confirming the supply is closed and the area is safe.

Oven side of the range

Gas ovens rely on an igniter that must draw enough current to open the gas valve. A weak igniter glows but never lets the flame start, and the oven seems to take forever or does nothing at all. A bake that starts, runs a while and then cools usually has a sensor or control cause. A technician reads these patterns before touching a part.

Keep the oven vent area and the cooktop surface clear of foil and liners, which can block combustion air.
