LG Washer dE, dE1, E01 and dE4 Error Codes

VERIFIED

Error code dE / dE1 / E01 / dE4
Appliance Washer

When the display of an LG washer shows dE, the machine is telling you that the door never closed or never locked. The same fault can appear as dE1 or E01, and a WashTower uses dE4. Plenty of the time, a reset is all it takes.

What the variants mean

  • dE, dE1 and E01: the door is not closed properly.
  • dE4: the WashTower version of the door message.
  • Top-load washers: dE means the door or drawer is open or not securely closed.

Front-load models: reset sequence

A common reason is laundry pinched between the door and the rubber gasket, so look there first. If the code is still showing after you reclose the door, run this reset:

  1. Turn the washer off.
  2. Cut its power, either by pulling the plug or by tripping the circuit breaker.
  3. With the power still disabled, hold START/PAUSE down for 5 seconds.
  4. Switch the power back on and run the washer again.

When dE, dE1 or E01 keeps returning after that, the washer needs service.

WashTower specifics

The drums in a WashTower close very snugly, so a door that is not shut all the way stops the cycle and brings up dE. LG tells owners to push every item completely into the drum, then press the middle of the door handle from the front. If the error shows up anyway, pull the door open and shut it again with a firm push. Some causes cannot be solved at home: a bent latch, a gasket that is torn or has come out, a door magnet that is missing, or a failed door lock sensor. LG also warns against repairing the gasket yourself.

Top-load models

Take out any laundry that is holding the door or drawer open, then shut it with a firm press.

Neighboring door codes

  • dE2: the door is shut but the lock has not engaged
  • dE1: the drawer on a pedestal washer is not closed properly
  • dL: the door latch or lock is not working

Bay Area LG washer service

A dE that returns after the reset can go to our San Francisco team for LG washer repair across the Bay Area, by phone at (415) 223-7887. Keep the exact code variant on your display, the washer model number and the reset you already did within reach when you call.

Model compatibility: LG reuses codes across series and model years, so dE / dE1 / E01 / dE4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

dE, dE1, E01 and dE4 all flag a door that is not closed or not locked, and dE4 is the variant shown on a WashTower.

Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
