One fault, four readings
d75, d80, d90 and d95 describe a single fault, a clogged exhaust duct, and the digits (75, 80, 90, 95) give the degree. When the Flow Sense indicator lights two or four bars, the exhaust path is badly restricted. The dryer’s warm, damp air needs a way out; otherwise moisture stays behind in the drum and the clothes.
Gas dryers
On a gas dryer, d80 can alternatively mean the unit is short of gas.
Start inside the dryer
- Empty the lint tray after every load.
- Scrub the tray with a soft brush in warm water, and let it dry fully before it goes back in.
- Load less, so air can flow from the rear of the drum to the front.
Then look behind it
- Examine the exhaust hose between dryer and wall for crushing, dents, kinks or compression.
- A gentle S-curve is acceptable, but coiling it like a spring is not.
- Look for holes or loose joints.
- The duct may be rigid, semi-rigid or flexible; none of these may be crushed or kinked.
The whole duct run and the outside vent
A build-up of lint in the rear exhaust duct lengthens drying time. Inspect every section you can reach, and free the flaps on the outside vent. Long runs, or runs with many elbows, can hide a blockage, so go outdoors while the dryer runs and check whether exhaust air is blowing out. For professional cleaning, LG’s guide refers you to a vent cleaning company in your area.
