Error codeSS
ApplianceRefrigerator
LG words SS differently in its two help pages. The digital and analog guide says temperature detection of the water tank has an issue and that performance falls. The error code list says the pantry sensor is shortened or open.
Reading the two together
Both descriptions point to a temperature sensor that is not reporting properly. One guide names the water tank sensor, the other the pantry sensor, and neither says the owner can fix it. The code is listed for refrigerators without naming a series.
Same advice either way
Neither page gives troubleshooting for the owner. The manual says to request service, which makes repair service the next step.
Other sensor codes
A tank that is missing or badly seated shows as tt, a different problem. Sensors in the refrigerator compartment itself appear as r2 for the lower zone.
San Francisco refrigerator repair for SS
An SS code can be raised at (415) 223-7887 by anyone in San Francisco or the Bay Area. Mention whether the refrigerator has a water tank, and have the model number to hand. The LG refrigerator repair page gives an outline.
Model compatibility: LG reuses codes across series and model years, so SS may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
A water tank temperature sensor fault, described elsewhere as a shorted or open pantry sensor.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
